The Cloud Leopard Papercut Sculpture

Cloud Leopard Paper Sculpture Saatchi Collect

Professional papercut artist, Nahoko Kojima of Solo Kojima, was selected by the Crafts Council as one of only ten international artists showing in the Project Space at Collect 2012 at the Saatchi gallery (11-14 May 2012). The astoundingly intricate Cloud Leopard Papercut sculpture unveiled at the event was made from one sheet of paper and cut by hand – a process which took 5 months.

Not only does this piece encourage recognition of a Japanese artform in the UK but it also also gives many people a chance to see a new form of paper sculpture for the first time. The implications this has to Papercut Art in Europe are significant as it challenges established views and presents a very new concept of treating it as sculpture. A truly spectacular example of Contemporary Japanese Paper-cut Art, which represents a new sculptural direction for Nahoko Kojima.

Google Event: Leading Artist Nahoko Kojima at Somerset House

Solo Kojima were are Somerset House on 18th. November 2014 doing a fantastic Paper Cut Workshop for 150 Google City Experts with original designs created by Nahoko Kojima. The event was hosted by Jelly & Gin, and the concept was simply inspired. After ice skating in the courtyard participants came inside to cut Paper masks for themselves which they wore during the rest of the event. The result was not only exciting but also very surprising in how the lovely creative crowd found a multitude of ways in which to cut and wear Nahoko’s designs. We want to thank Google staff and all the guests for their enthusiasm and engagement.

ArtPrize 2014: Nahoko Kojima astounds US crowd with the heavenly, Washi (2014) Bald Eagle. The word literally translates from Japanese as Eagle, but also means the type of paper that was used to cut the piece. A narrative runs through the piece as is customary for Nahoko’s style but the form cut by hand from only one 10ft square sheet of paper is a truly masterful feat.
