Description:
Nahoko Kojima will show you how to create her beautiful Paper Cut artworks in a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere. All levels welcome.

The cost of the ticket includes paper and the loan of equipment. A special workshop design for cutting will be provided (not shown here). If you want to cut your own then bring along a small design and photocopy. Please also bring a pen and an A4 plastic sleeve or choice of frame to transport your work.

When you sign up below, enter your experience level at the checkout so that Nahoko can tailor the class for you. Please also note that anyone under 16 will need a parent or guardian to accompany them and sign the workshop form before starting the class. Refreshments will be provided.

If you were given a Recommendation Card by someone who attended a class then you can use the box below to get 10% off. Don’t forget to bring the card with you to the class otherwise you will have to pay the full amount to participate.

Come and visit us at our Summer Open Studio 2013 which starts with a Private View at 5pm on 16 May until 19 May. We are also going to be part of Clerkenwell Design Week and are looking forward to seeing the thousands of people that enter our doors during that weekend to come and see the cutting edge of Paper Cut Art in Europe today.

We have also been invited to show our groundbreaking Cloud Leopard Paper Cut Sculpture in the new Craft Central Gallery, one year on after it was unveiled at the Saatchi Gallery in Collect 2012. The Leopard was especially flown from Paris to London as an additional stop in his European Tour currently under way. This is a very rare opportunity to see the piece which represents a new genre of Contemporary Paper Cut Sculpture in the world today. The Show of the Cloud Leopard runs from 2–23 May 2013, 11-5pm weekdays (Open Studio hours from 16-19 May 2013).

On the second leg of his European Tour, The Cloud Leopard is due to next be shown at Le Beffroi, 2 Place Emile Cresp 92121 Montrouge, Paris, France. The private view is on 1st. February 2013 and the show runs until 24th. February 2013. This piece is generating huge critical acclaim due to the new way in which it melds sculpture with paper cut art. Solo & Kojima are proud to start the year 2013 with a massive victory. Nahoko Kojima has won the prestigious Contemporary Art Award, the Jerwood Makers Open 2013. She is part of a select group of the five best contemporary artists in the UK today. The award “recognises rising stars in the world of applied arts.” and the judging panel included Edward Barber, David Falkner and Bonnie Kemske.

The new piece to be unveiled at the Jerwood Makers Open 2013 is entitled, Byaku, a Japanese word meaning White in English. It shall depict a life size swimming Polar Bear, hand cut using only one sheet of white Japanese Washi Paper and suspended as a free hanging sculpture.

Nahoko Kojima has been commissioned to create her new sculptural papercut piece following the hugely successful Cloud Leopard which was unveiled at Saatchi Collect earlier this May and is now on a touring exhibition in Europe in partnership with Arte&Arte, Italy.

In 2012 Solo & Kojima secured a major new Account with SPI Direct Entry, the UK partners of Swiss Post, to create a Brand Activation for their shiny new product which allows people to post their digital photos anywhere in the world using a friendly App and Website.

Today we proudly launch the product in the US and can finally release some of the work here. Solo & Kojima worked across the board, from brainstorming names for the product and creating Brand guidelines, design of the App, Social Media, Graphic Design and Identity, design of the website, and we even concepted, directed and produced a strong Brandfilm for the launch.

We actually really love the product too and know it is going to be the next big thing in 2013.

Solo & Kojima are proud to announce the inclusion of Nahoko Kojima’s Cloud Leopard piece in Arte&Arte’s touring Exhibition, Miniartextil. The first show will be in Como, Italy, from 6th October until 18th November 2012 in the prestigious seat of Villa Olmo, a historic listed landmark that was at the heart of the Enlightenment movement in Italy.

The Cloud Leopard was unveiled earlier this year at the Saatchi Gallery at the Craft Council’s Collect 2012 Show, which last year saw an attendance of over 10,000 people with close of show sales being £1.24M. This is a rare opportunity for people to see this groundbreaking piece which is made only from one sheet of paper and cut by hand.

Arte&Arte is an Italian Cultural association which has been organising Miniartextil, annually since 1991. It is an international Contemporary Textile Art exhibition which takes place in Como, Paris and Venice. Every participating artist submits an original artwork realised using textile or texture based techniques which include Papercut.

Nahoko Kojima was selected as one of only 6 artists out of approximately 4000 international applications for Emirates Skywards Award 2012 Competition.

The winner was decided by a mass vote from Emirates Skyward Cardholders.

Professional papercut artist, Nahoko Kojima of Solo Kojima, was selected by the Crafts Council as one of only ten international artists showing in the Project Space at Collect 2012 at the Saatchi gallery (11-14 May 2012). The astoundingly intricate Cloud Leopard Papercut sculpture unveiled at the event was made from one sheet of paper and cut by hand – a process which took 5 months.

Not only does this piece encourage recognition of a Japanese artform in the UK but it also also gives many people a chance to see a new form of paper sculpture for the first time. The implications this has to Papercut Art in Europe are significant as it challenges established views and presents a very new concept of treating it as sculpture. A truly spectacular example of Contemporary Japanese Paper-cut Art, which represents a new sculptural direction for Nahoko Kojima.

The Craft Council has announced that Papercut Artist, Nahoko Kojima, has been selected as one of only 10 Professional Artists showing in the Project Space at their Collect 2012 Event at the prestigious Saatchi Gallery. Nahoko Kojima is working on an exclusive Papercut piece which will be unveiled for the event.

Solo Kojima created Bespoke Papercut Applied Art for a Japanese wedding.

We came up with the original concept of a key nameplate and a keyhole on the Dinner Menu Sleeve,
symbolising the bond between two people coming together. The sleeve also features a shape which is a
heart when upright and a spade when flipped around.

The second Sleeve at first glance appears to be an endless bouquet of roses but when observed with
care one notices two figures standing in the centre.

All the items are intended for reuse. The sleeve jackets are the exact size of modern Manga novels
and the key is naturally a whimsical bookmark.

Everything stands still when a peacock spreads its majestic wings. With this piece Nahoko Kojima pays homage. This, as all of her other works, is a unique and original piece carefully hand-cut, out of a single sheet of paper. It is encased in custom made acrylic sheets hung using metal chrome stand-offs.

This is one of two in this series. The other is Flamingo.

Solo Kojima shot and created the Little Big Planet Vita Trailer for Sony. We also helped with the design of the tutorials being narrated by Stephen Fry and Art Directed numerous in-game props and controller designs. The game was created by Media Molecule and developed by Tarsier.

Solo Kojima created in-game cut sequences for the Sin City Slot machine game by Partygaming.

Pair, is a piece full of romance and beauty. Intertwined in the continuous forms we discover two rabbits rubbing their faces into one another. Made from one black sheet it nonetheless depicts a black rabbit on the right and a white rabbit on the left. A clever piece which sold privately in 2010.

Solo Kojima created a Promo for the Sin City Game by Partygaming.

Aprroximately 3,100 people attended the event over the period of 4 days.

Solo Kojima Art Directed and created all the LED Content for Imagination’s £1 million Evoque Live Event. The first of it’s kind for a car launch, it featured 3 Artists from 3 different parts of the globe jamming together one after the other. It was 11am in New York where we were located and the other production staff were in Milan (4pm) and Shanghai (11pm). Click the above image to see the viral created by Ranger Rover to promote the vehicle. The content consisted of Channel Identity for the 3 cities and different backdrops for the 3 performing artists, CeeLo Green, Paulo Nutini and Mark Ronson.

Chandelier has received huge interest from a wide range of people and organisations. It is a good example of Nahoko Kojima’s tireless dedication to pushing new ideas and striving to develop new concepts in her work. This piece lies somewhere in between the wall hung pieces and the future where she wishes to evolve her art form from paper display to paper sculpture.
